Experts raise alarm over growing social media addiction

Experts are warning that social media addiction is becoming an serious public health concern. They say many users are unaware of the extent of their dependence.

According to the experts excessive social media use can significantly impact mental health.

Conscious Psychology’s Chandini Reddy says, “What happens is that those small dopamine releases reinforce repeated engagement with those social media apps. So whether it’s TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, yeah, whatever people are interested in using. Um, it reinforces that repeated engagement, and the more you engage with it, the more people feel they need to engage with it. So basically, what happens is you build a tolerance for engaging on social media.”
