Case of 62 alleged instigators of July 2021 unrest resumes in Durban


The case of 62 alleged instigators of the July 2021 unrest is expected to resume in the High Court in Durban on Monday. They are facing charges that include incitement to commit public violence, terrorism and conspiracy to commit murder.

Meanwhile, another unrest-related trial, that of Bonginkosi Khanyile, is set to resume in the Durban Regional Court after postponement last month.

Khanyile is facing a charge of incitement to commit public violence and contravention of the Disaster Management Act.

More than 300 people died in the widespread unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. It cost the economy over R70 billion.
