Bakkie recovered in Dzedze river
The family of a businessman whose car was swept away by an overflowing river last week at Tswinga village in Limpopo, say they are hopeful that he will be found. Rescue teams retrieved the bakkie that Nur Ali Nur was driving, 300 meters away from where it was swept away in the flooded Dzindi river.
Nur was with a passenger when the vehicle was overcome by the overflowing river.
Family spokesperson Abdulahi Roble Jes says his brother has been missing since the 17th of January.
“Today his bakkie was recovered but there is still no sign of my brother. We are hopeful that we will get him back. I want to take this opportunity to thank the South African government, local government and nationally, how they supported us and how they searched for our brother on a daily basis. We are grateful for that.”
Meanwhile, police spokesperson in the Vhembe district Vuledzani Dathi says the search for the missing person will continue.
“This is like the beginning of the search, we didn’t find anybody inside the vehicle. So, it means our operation has to continue until we find the bodies.”
Premier Dr @PhophiRamathuba, together with Executive Mayor Clir Freda Nkondo, arrived at Tswinga Bridge, the site of a bakkie being swept away by floodwaters, where rescue operations remain underway and the Premier has met with the families of the missing persons. #LimpopoFloods pic.twitter.com/mX7WEe1MTC
