The National Association of School Governing Bodies in Sedibeng, south of Gauteng, is calling on the provincial government to ensure strict compliance with scholar transport regulations.
The association’s regional secretary, Thabiso Radebe, has been speaking at the memorial service for the 14 pupils who died in a scholar transport minibus taxi collision on Monday.
Speaking in Sebokeng, Radebe says learner safety must be safeguarded.
“We always raise this issue sharply to demand that the department must take serious action to ensure learners are safe when they are delivered to their schools. This is a very terrible accident so we are saying our condolences to all affected families, the schools and the entire community of Sedibeng.”
