Zungu rejects claims his hostel residence was gathering spot

Sifiso Gwabini Zungu has refuted the state’s claims that his hostel residence was a gathering spot for his KwaZulu- Natal homeboys and the Senzo Meyiwa murder accused.

Zungu has been on the stand at the High Court in Pretoria, where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.

State Prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi read out an extract from another witness Simphiwe Buthelezi’s statement, mentioning Zungu’s Basotho Hostel in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand as a gathering spot.

Baloyi: And it reads as follows: There was a time in 2014, when I used to hang out with the homies from KwaNongoma. And the names of those people, Carlos, Maphisa, and Nkani, and Muzi, in a room where Gwabini resides. The fact of the matter was that his room was used as a gathering point.

Gwabini: There’s a lot of that I can say, because I don’t know Simphiwe. Carlos, that is being mentioned, I don’t know. It has never happened that I hung around them in my room.
