Hope and nerves as Kimberley matriculants await their results

As the Department of Basic Education finalises preparations ahead of the release of the 2025 matric results on Monday, some candidates in Kimberley who sat for their examinations last year say they are hoping for the best.

The matric candidates say this is a stressful period, but they are trying to manage their anxiety.

About 16 000 candidates wrote their National Senior Certificate examinations in the Northern Cape.

The province hopes to improve by over five percent on the 84.2 percent matric pass rate in 2024.

One matriculant says, “I am super nervous and also kind of excited. I have worked very hard, so fingers crossed.”
Another says, “It’s so frustrating because everyone is just talking about it and I am so nervous and scared.”
“I don’t know the outcomes, but hopefully I did my best,” says another.

Meanwhilw, Psychologist Oscar Motswage has advised the matric class of 2025 to keep a positive mindset ahead of the release of their results.

He says feeling anxious is normal and can be managed. Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube will announce the overall results on Monday.

Dr Motswage says parents should support their children.
