Relief centre set up for residents affected by Du Noon informal settlement fire

The City of Cape Town’s Risk Disaster Management Centre has established an onsite joint operation centre in Du Noon to co-ordinate recovery efforts from the fire.

A fire broke out at the Site 5 informal settlement earlier Friday destroying a number of structures.

Spokesperson Charlotte Powell says they are waiting on an all clear from Fire and Rescue to begin formal assessments to determine the extent of the fire and number of persons affected.

Powell says they have alerted their partners to be on standby to assist.

She says the centre will also activate its humanitarian relief partners to assist with immediate relief efforts.
