Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is giving evidence at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria on December 4, 2025.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has testified at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria that the political killings task team (PKTT) offered no value for money.
He will face cross-examination after his statement.
Mchunu, who is on special leave, has been accused of unlawfully disbanding the PKTT in his December 2024 directive.
Responding to Commissioner Sesi Baloyi, Mchunu further testified that a lot of money was being spent on the task team.
Mchunu: There’s never been value for money from the beginning.
Baloyi: Is that what you’re seeking to show with these statistics?
Mchunu: Yes. In the directive, there is a half-sentence or something that says, that talks to the value for money. And if you look at stats, you look at the deteriorating budget, you look at demands which are affecting performance. You look at what we spent in 12 months for one task team.
