D-Day for City of Joburg to finalise verification of informal traders

The City of Johannesburg has until the end of Tuesday to complete the verification of informal traders operating in the city.

This is part of a recent order of the High Court in Johannesburg for the City to speed up the verification, registration and allocation of trading spaces for informal traders previously removed from the CBD.

The City’s senior officials, including Mayor Dada Morero, will on Tuesday morning provide an update on progress made in the verification process.

Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero is expected to brief on the outcomes of the verification process, the next steps for issuing trading permits to qualifying traders, and the measures the City is implementing to ensure full compliance with the court ruling, municipal by-laws and the Informal Trading Policy.

The City will also outline its ongoing efforts to create an orderly, safe and inclusive trading environment that supports both economic activity and the rights of residents and formal businesses.
