These revised rules are aimed at improving the capacity of its councillors to provide strategic direction and oversight to municipalities.
ANC Secretary of the Electoral Committee Chief Livhuwani Matsila says, “The NEC has decided that the mayoral candidates are going to be announced by the end of this year. And that is going to be done by the national officials, taking into consideration the availability of capacity in the various municipalities in terms of candidates. I think that is informed by the desire to improve the capacity in terms of skills and experience and qualifications of those that are to be mayors, especially in the metros or metropolitan municipalities.”
