Advocate Shamila Batohi.
National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi will be the first witness to testify at the Nkabinde inquiry tomorrow.
The inquiry is looking into the fitness to hold office of South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andrew Chauke
The inquiry officially kicked off today in Pretoria.
Chauke was suspended by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July, who then established the inquiry following allegations of misconduct and political interference by Chauke in high-profile cases.
This includes his alleged failure to pursue charges against former police crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.
Chief evidence leader, Advocate David Mhlamonyane, testified that, “The establishment of the present inquiry arises from the recommendations by the National Director of Public Prosecution, the NDPP, Shamila Bathoi. Advocate Bathoi has submitted an affidavit and will be the first witness to testify in this inquiry, and she has outlined in her affidavit the circumstances which led to the recommendations to the president.”
