Court gavel and book
The murder trial of Alberto Matthews, accused of killing his ex-wife Mandy Bailey nearly two years ago, is nearing conclusion.
The Northern Cape High Court heard closing arguments in the matter on Wednesday.
The State argued that Matthews admit that he was at the murder scene and that two witnesses corroborated that he shot the deceased.
While the defense argued that there is no evidence linking the accused to the murder weapon.
Erin Cupido, the daughter of the deceased, had this to say.
“We are really happy that there has been progress, so much progress in the last month or so with the case. We are happy that we are hearing the end before it marks two years of my mother’s death, especially during this time it means a lot to us, especially with what is going on in the country right now. This feels like 2019 but so much worse. It’s triggering, this is heavy, my heart goes out to every other family that is going through what I am going through and every child going through what I am going through.”
