One killed, 7 injured in Van Standensrus taxi-truck collision


One person has been killed and seven people critically injured in a collision between a minibus taxi and a light delivery truck on the R26 near Van Standensrus in Free State.  

Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Sipho Towa says the jaws of life were used to extricate over five entrapped passengers.  

Five more people have been slightly injured and four moderately injured.  

The road has been partially closed to traffic.  

The injured have been taken to Embekweni Hospital in Zastron and  Pelonomi Trauma Unit in Bloemfontein.  

Road users are urged to be on high alert and follow instructions from law enforcement on the scene.
