Accused number 1 in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Muzi Sibiya.
The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial says they have reason to believe that accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, was using a different number to communicate during the period the soccer captain was killed.
Meyiwa was shot and killed in October 2014, while he was at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s parental home in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Sibiya is one of five accused on trial at the High Court in Pretoria.
State Prosecutor George Baloyi is taking Sibiya through a number of prepaid airtime purchases for a different network, prior and post the alleged hit.
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng asked: “If you had the use of this number, the Vodacom number, why was it necessary to make all these 15 recharges during this period?”
Advocate Baloyi: My Lord, this lays the basis for the argument by the state that during the period leading up to the deceased’s killing and thereafter, the accused used another cell phone for purposes of communication.”
