The scene of the fatal accident
A head-on collision has claimed the life of a four-year-old girl and left several others injured.
The crash, which occurred near Trafford Road in Pinetown, Durban, involved two vehicles and brought emergency services rushing to the scene.
Rescue teams, including ALS Paramedics and the eThekwini Fire Department worked tirelessly to free trapped occupants, including a family of four.
While three family members were taken to hospital with serious injuries, paramedics sadly declared the youngest child dead on the scene.
Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, “Just after 6pm on Wednesday evening, ALS paramedics responded to a horrific head-on collision on Richmond Road near Trafford Road in the Westmead area of Pinetown.
Paramedics arrived on scene to find carnage as they found two badly damaged vehicles that collided head-on, leaving two people severely entrapped in their vehicle. Immediately the eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to assist. Together with Redline Response rescue teams, the fire fighters used the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to extricate the two.”
