Eastern Cape crash claims four lives

Four people have died in an accident on the N2 between Qonce and East London in the Eastern Cape.

Provincial Transport Spokesperson Unathi Binqose says the driver of a sedan lost control of the vehicle between Amalinda and Hemmingways Mall in East London and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

He added that all occupants of the sedan who are suspected to be family members died on the scene, while the driver of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Binqose says a case of culpable homicide has been opened for further investigations.

“This is a terrible accident, the kind we have not reported about in the Eastern Cape in a long time, and the MEC for Transport in the Eastern Cape Mr Xolile Nqatha, has expressed shock, extending his sincere word of condolences to those families who lost their loved ones in this crash. It is not yet clear whether or not they are members of the same family, but it appears as if it is a mother, a father and two children.”
