Jerome Booysen trial postponed over technical glitches

The case against alleged underworld figure, Jerome Booysen and eleven co-accused has been postponed to Tuesday due to constant internet lagging and inaudible testimony from a witness that resulted in a number of adjournments.

Booysen appeared in the Western Cape High Court. The court also heard that the witness fell ill and would not be able to continue.

Booysen’s legal team cross-examined the investigating officer who probed conflict in the nightclub security industry in Cape Town in 2017.

This trial-within-a-trial continues to determine the admissibility of transcripts of intercepted phone calls between Booysen, his former co-accused and now deceased Mark Lifman, Andre Naude and others.

Booysen is accused of the murder of Brian Wainstein in 2017, also known as the Steroid King.

His lawyer, Advocate Amanda Nel says, “Is it correct that the complaints received by your unit emanated from club owners and related to extortion and intimidation allegedly executed by the security companies. In other words, companies had to pay a protection fee?”
