FlySafair check in counters are seen in this picture taken on 22 July 2025 amid a strike over a wage dispute.
Trade union Solidarity’s Secretary-General Gideon du Plessis says it is ridiculous that pilots had to strike to get what they deserved, and as a result, pilots lost 12 days of remuneration.
This comes as the FlySafair pilots’ strike comes to an end on Friday after an agreement was reached with airline management.
Du Plessis says pilots will get a 6% wage increase in the first year, to 6.9% in the final year, over 4 years.

In terms of the settlement, pilots will receive at least one 60-hour weekend off during each six-week cycle, with a minimum of nine weekends off per year. They will also be allowed to exchange shifts among themselves.
On renumeration, pilots will receive a salary increase of 6% in the first year, followed by 6.5% the following year. The pilots will be entitled to another increase, just under 7% in the last two years of the deal.
