Learners in a school hall during an exam.
Thousands of Grade 12 learners in all five districts in Limpopo are attending extra lessons at selected winter enrichment camps.
The learners have been selected from various schools in the province. Some of the matric learners are participating at a winter school programme at Pax Secondary School outside Polokwane.
They say they are optimistic that the camp will assist in increasing their overall matric pass rates.
A learner says, “Through this whole week we were able to be taught two topics each subject. The normal period is sometimes not long enough for us to capture a lot of information. Through these winter camps we are able to capture a lot more information.
We are hoping this camp just improves the way we thought before because as usual in the beginning of the year we have this mindset that matric is going to be hard and difficult.”
Meanwhile, Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya says the province is aiming for a top five spot nationally in the 2025 matric pass rate,
“The plan for this year as you know we are targeting to be in the top five. We are looking at all those categories so we can deal with them better. I know there are schools that are meant for the boys and schools that are meant for girls especially with the schools that we share with the churches. In those churches we have got our stars where we have got the top twenty learners in the district.”
