Tokai fires
Firefighters from multiple agencies are continuing to battle the fire raging on Table Mountain, even as aerial firebombing efforts had to be scaled back overnight.
The blaze has burnt through nearly 3 000 hectares of vegetation, since it ignited on Friday near the Tokai, and Silvermine sections of the mountain.
Table Mountain officials have suggested that their preliminary investigation points to the fire possibly having been started deliberately on Friday, by someone with malicious intent.

Working on Fire Managing Director Trevor Abrahams says there is roughly 218 firefighters who have been busy overnight combating the fire.
“The aerial resources are standing by at first light to start the operations again and it is an ongoing struggle, though we’ve been blessed with relatively moderate weather, when I say moderate weather, particularly the wind. So, it’s been relatively benign and that has really assisted the kind of fighting of this particular fire,” says Abrahams.
