A scholar transport driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old learner in the Mafefe area outside Lebowakgomo in Limpopo.
Police say the learner was allegedly sexually assaulted between January and March this year. The alleged incidents came to light when the child told her guardian.
The incident allegedly happened inside the scholar transport vehicle after other learners had been dropped off. Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect will face a rape charge when he appears in court next week.
“The suspect allegedly threatened the child not to report the incident but she finally disclosed to her grandmother during the Easter weekend. A case of rape was opened which was transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation. The suspect was subsequently arrested on Thursday.”
