Three of the five men accused of raping NC orphan get life sentences

Three of the five Northern Cape men aged between 34 and 55 have been given life imprisonment sentences after they were found guilty of raping a 9-year-old orphaned girl between 2017 and 2020.

The aunt of the rape survivor reported the matter to the police.

The men were arrested in 2020 and found guilty and sentenced by the Northern Cape High Court sitting in Upington.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergio Kock says the names of the accused will be registered in the National register for Sex Offenders.

“Accused 1: Waybril Gertse (41)  life imprisonment, accused 2 Graham Gertse (31) , life imprisonment, accused 3 Virnit Priega (40) , 25 years imprisonment, accused 4, Alfonsus Visagie (55), 18 years imprisonment, accused 5, and Andre Magerman (34) got a life imprisonment sentence. Furthermore, their names will be registered in the National Register for Sex Offenders, and they were declared unfit to possess firearms.”
