A 28-year old man who faces a charge of statutory rape is expected to appear at the Seshego Magistrates’ Court outside Polokwane in Limpopo this morning.
The charge relates to a 13-year-old girl who gave birth to a baby boy on Christmas Day at the Seshego Hospital last year.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the suspect was released on bail last week.
This after DNA tests showed that he was not the father of the teenager’s baby.
Malabi-Dzhangi says the Director of Public Prosecutions is yet to give a directive on a way forward.
The 13-year-old is part of 31 teenagers who delivered babies at Limpopo public hospitals on Christmas Day last year.
