72 suspects arrested during sting operations on New Year’s in N Cape

Police have arrested 72 suspects for murder, attempted murder and assault during the New Year crime prevention operations in Kimberley in the Northern Cape.

The operations which were executed simultaneously across all five districts in the province also resulted in the closure of three unlicensed liquor outlets.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says, “Disruptive actions focused on alcohol-related crimes, contact crimes, property-related crimes, and dangerous weapons. Liquor outlets were vigorously policed gatherings as well, resulting in the closure of three unlicensed outlets and the confiscation of a significant amount of alcohol. Actions included vehicle checkpoints, roadblocks compliance inspections at spaza shops, and liquor outlets, especially regarding adherence to closing times. Stop and search actions were executed where dangerous weapons and drugs were confiscated.”
