7 suspects arrested in Kuruman for possession of unlicensed firearm


Police in the Northern Cape have arrested seven suspects aged between 19 and 31 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

They were arrested in Kuruman after two members attached to the Kuruman Crime Prevention Unit stopped and searched a suspicious looking vehicle.

Police spokesperson Timothy Sam says during the search, police discovered a 9mm pistol with a tampered serial number of rounds of ammunition.

“While conducting routine crime prevention patrols in Kuruman, the officers noticed a suspicious vehicle. They tactically approached the vehicle and requested permission to conduct a search. During the search, police discovered a 9mm pistol with a tampered serial number of rounds of ammunition.

All seven suspects were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s court soon.”
