Free State police have arrested a 50-year-old man from Brackenfell in the Western Cape following a cyber sexual offences investigation involving minors.

Police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli says the arrest follows a complaint lodged by a clinical psychologist at a school in Dewetsdorp in February this year, alleging that the suspect exploited two boys, aged 15 and 16, by luring them with false promises of gifts in exchange for sexually explicit videos and images.

Kareli says preliminary investigations have identified other potential victims aged between 14 and 16.

“The suspect faces multiple charges, including sexual exploitation, grooming, and facilitating the creation of child pornography.”

Kareli adds: “After the case was referred to SECI, Constable Mosiuoa Ntholeng was appointed to investigate. He traced and arrested the suspect in Brackenfell on 26 May 2025. The accused appeared briefly in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court before being transferred to the Dewetsdorp Magistrate’s Court, where he is scheduled to appear on Monday, 2 June 2025. During the arrest, electronic devices were seized.”
