49-year-old Austrian tourist drowns at Wilderness in Western Cape

A 49-year-old Austrian tourist has drowned after being caught in a rip current at Wilderness in the Western Cape. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says its team was dispatched to Leentjiesklip where three swimmers had run into difficulty. Spokesperson Craig Lambinon says they managed to assist two young people.

“The man was transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a critical condition after a feint pulse had been restored with resuscitation efforts continuing in the ambulance en-route to hospital. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts continuing in hospital in the care of doctors and nurses, after all efforts to stabilise the man was exhausted, during Saturday night the man was sadly declared deceased by doctors,” says Lambinon.
