40-year-old man arrested for stolen car during Operation Shanela

Gauteng police have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with a stolen vehicle and found unlicensed ammunition in his possession.

The suspect was nabbed during Operation Shanela in Alexandra, Johannesburg.

Provincial Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says the vehicle crime investigation unit confirmed that the car was stolen in KwaZulu-Natal in 2023.

“We can confirm that this vehicle was stolen, but we further went and cross checked this individual. It’s an individual who’s over 40 years, or 42 years. We have done some searching in the room. We ultimately discovered that he does have a firearm licence for a specific firearm categorym but he’s having different kinds of ammunition, of which we are still doing the counting or tallying. We can just say that he will also be charge with possession of unlicensed ammunitions,” says Mthombeni.
