The Department of Mobility in the Western Cape has raised concerns on the number of road crashes and fatalities caused by negligence and reckless driving.
Minister Isaac Sileku says 37 people have lost their lives in the past two weeks in 28 crashes.

Traffic authorities are conducting high visibility patrols and roadblocks in the Western Cape as traffic volumes increase over the festive season.
He has urged motorists to be responsible.
“There will be empty seats at Christmas tables, and birthdays that will never be celebrated, all of which could have been avoided. These aren’t just numbers. These are not just statistics. These are families changed forever. They’re people who should still be here. Slow down. Be responsible. One choice can save a life,” says Sileku.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) says it is working on a number of interventions to address road crashes caused by motorists taking videos for social media while driving.
