Police in Cape Town have arrested a 29-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Muizenberg.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk says during patrols, officers confiscated a firearm and 29 rounds of ammunition, which led to the arrest.
He says the operation was part of targeted efforts to tackle shooting incidents in the province last week.
Van Wyk says members of the K9 Unit in the Muizenberg area were patrolling in the Vrygrond area when they spotted a suspicious-looking male at the corner of Drury and Peace Roads.
“They immediately stopped and searched him, upon which they found a 9mm pistol with 29 rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for the possession thereof and will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates’ Court once charged,” adds Van Wyk.
