Twenty nine learners from Ihobe Primary School in Bloemfontein have been taken to Pelonomi Hospital after they consumed expired chocolates.
Free State Education Department spokesperson Howard Ndaba says the learners allegedly bought the chocolates from vendors near the school during break time.
They started vomiting and complaining about abdominal pain.
Ndaba says some of the learners fainted and an ambulance and police were called in.
Meanwhile, the Limpopo Department of Education plans to lift the food sales ban in schools, but with certain conditions.
Schools and vendors must follow these rules by 11 November 2024.
The goal is to make sure the food sold at schools is healthy and safe.
