Twenty-six illegal miners are expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrate’s court near Klerksdorp in the North West on Friday.
They were arrested this week after four resurfaced at Margaret Shaft while another 22 also emerged from Buffelsfontein Shaft number 10.
They are facing charges of trespassing and contravention of the Immigration act.
Provincial police spokesperson Adele Myburgh says, “They comprise 9 from Lesotho, four Zimbabweans, nine from Mozambique and four South Africans. In addition to the stipulated charges, one of the suspects will be charged for possession of gold-bearing material and one suspect was found in possession of explosives.
All of them are still being processed and are expected to appear in the Stilfontein Magistrates Court today. The “Vala Umgodi” operations continue in the province.”
