Police seized a large quantity of food items destined for illegal miners at various shafts in and around Vaal Reefs.
Police in the North West have arrested 22 undocumented foreign nationals and seized a large quantity of food items seemingly destined for illegal miners.
Police say they started monitoring suspicious activities taking place on a farm situated between Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp.
The suspects were allegedly found packing and wrapping different food items seemingly destined for distribution to illegal miners at various shafts in and around Vaal Reefs.
According to Provincial police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone, the suspects are expected to appear in the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They face charges of contravention of the Immigration Act and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
” The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng indicated that the discovery of this storage facility including the arrest of the 22 illegal migrants and seizure of massive quantity of different types of food and equipment, is yet another incontrovertible proof of the extent of how illegal mining is funded, organised, aided and abetted.”
