A total of 58 drivers were fined for various offences, including worn-out tyres, cracked windscreens and operating vehicles without fire extinguishers.
Gauteng Traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane says authorities are conducting the Safety Scholar Blitz Programme nationwide until operators comply with regulations.
“We are appealing to our people to say the best way if you are a school transport operator ensure that you comply with the rules of the road. We have got a 365 plan; we will be here on the ground through the year to ensure that this people are complying because we cannot afford to have a situation where our learners are endangered by irresponsible drivers.”
