20 illegal miners resurface at Margaret Shaft, Stilfontein

Police have confirmed that 20 more illegal miners have resurfaced and were arrested at the Margaret Shaft outside Stilfontein in the North West today.

This brings the number of illegal mine workers that have emerged from underground since the middle of August to close to 1 300.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, says they have through the assistance of the Departments of Health and Social Development confirmed that thus far at least 14 minors between the ages of 14 and 17 were part of the group of illegal miners arrested.

They are currently in a place of safety.
