Shacks destroyed by a fire in Limpopo.
About 168 people have been temporarily accommodated at a local community after their shacks burnt down at Plastic View informal settlement in Hoedspruit, Limpopo.
Volunteers have been providing families with groceries, school uniforms and other basic necessities. There were no injuries in the fire.
The Mayor of Maruleng Municipality, Tsheko Musolwa says the municipality is looking for land, where the affected people will be accommodated.
Musolwa Plastic View settlement was illegal and was too close to the R40 Road.
“I can assure you there is no longer Plastic View and there will never be, that is the end of it. We are trying to intervene to make sure that the people who stayed there are given a proper area of residence within town just to ensure that people who work in this town stay next their area of employment. We have identified four sites as I am speaking to you the team has gone outside just to make sure the areas are prepared.”
