15-year-old fatally shoots 13-year-old at Benson Senior Primary in EC

A 15-year-old male learner fatally shot a 13-year-old female learner at the Benson Senior Primary School in Libode, Eastern Cape, on Wednesday.

It is alleged that the victim was coming from the local school grounds when she was shot.

She was then rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyholo says a case of murder has been opened against the 15-year-old.

“It is alleged that the 15-year-old male suspect had stolen the firearm from a certain homestead on that fateful day and a case of burglary on a residential area to that effect was opened. Detectives are busy on the case, and a charge against the firearm owner cannot be ruled out. They are still determining if the owner of the firearm followed the correct procedure for the safekeeping of the firearm.”
