128 arrested for various crimes during Operation Shanela


Gauteng Police have arrested 128 suspects during a high-impact, crime-combating operation involving various law enforcement agencies in Sebokeng, in the Vaal, south of Johannesburg.

Suspects arrested included those who were wanted for murder, rape, assault, grievous bodily harm (GBH) and undocumented foreign nationals, among others.

Provincial spokesperson Nthabiseng Mokhachane says the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

She says, “On the 29th of March 2026, Sedibeng police successfully held Operation Shanela, which was hosted in the Sebokeng police precinct. 128 suspects, of which 102 suspects were arrested before the day of Operation Shanela, and on the day of the operation, 26 suspects were arrested.”
