National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola briefs the media.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says 121 police dockets will be returned to the Political Killings Task Team after they were removed from the unit.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had claimed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu had instructed senior SAPS officials to disband the task team in March and withdrawn 121 active case dockets, many involving politically motivated assassinations.
This was allegedly without authorisation from the national commissioner.
Masemola was speaking on the sidelines of the Interpol Conference in Cape Town.

“By nature, the dockets that are carried by the Political Task Team are not simple. They are very complicated. It’s not easy to investigate them. So, really, we don’t expect arrests soon in those dockets. They are quite complex. They vary from murder, attempted murder, and intimidation. But in their nature, they are complex during the investigation. So, I’m not expecting to make arrests soon,” Masemola says.
