A 12-year-old girl has tragically drowned at Maitland’s Beach, Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.
National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says rescue teams brought the girl to shore at Maitland’s Beach, but despite resuscitation efforts, she was declared dead.
“After all efforts to resuscitate the girl were exhausted, sadly, she was declared deceased. The body of the child was taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. Condolences are conveyed to the family and friends of the deceased child. Police have opened an inquest docket. Police’s K9 Search and Rescue and the SA Police Services are investigating and are continuing in a search related to the 7-year-old suspected to be missing at Deal Light, Gqeberha,” says Lambinon.
Meanwhile, a search continues for a 7-year-old boy believed to have gone missing at Deal Light Beach early yesterday.
Lambinon mentions unconfirmed reports of two other people possibly missing at Maitland’s beach.
